Cathay Cineplex to Screen Covent Garden's "Carmen in 3D"


Covent Garden aka the Royal Opera House's Carmen in 3D project is coming to Singapore! Join Christine Rice (Carmen), Bryan Hymel (Don Jose), Aris Argiris (Escamillo), and Constantinos Carydis (conductor) in Francesca Zambello’s popular production that has already been seen live in Australia, Taipei and now London. Cathay Cineplexes to Screen Exclusively in Singapore the World’s First 3D Opera, Carmen in 3D
Carmen in 3D is a Co-Production by RealD and London’s Royal Opera House

There will be a total of 12 screenings in The Cathay Cineplex between 1 April to 10 April 2011, and the showtimes as follows:

- 1 April, Fri: 9.00pm
- 2 April, Sat: 9.00pm
- 3 April, Sun: 4.00pm and 8.30pm
- 4 April - 9 April: 9pm
- 10 April, Sun: 4.30pm and 8.30pm

Singapore, 17 February 2011 – Cathay Cineplexes has been awarded the exclusive screening right in Singapore to Carmen in 3D, the first ever Opera to be filmed and shown in cinemas on 3D. Cathay Cineplexes will join major cinema chains all around the world in screening the French musical at its RealD 3D-equipped theatre. A collaboration between RealD and London’s internationally renowned Royal Opera House, Carmen in 3D marks a breakthrough in the cinematic industry. The film premiered on 6 February 2011 at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival closing night gala, and will be shown in Singapore on 1 April 2011. 12 screenings of the 175 minutes (inclusive of a 20-minute intermission) film will be shown over 10 days at The Cathay Cineplex and patrons can start purchasing movie tickets for the film as early as 21 February 2011.

Georges Bizet’s Carmen has been captivating audiences since its debut in 1875. Filmed in 3D during live performances at the Royal Opera House, Carmen in 3D is a feature film event depicting acclaimed director Francesca Zambello’s updated interpretation of the opera classic. Directed for cinema by Julian Napier and produced by Phil Streather, with memorable performances by Christine Rice (Carmen), Bryan Hymel (Don Jose), Aris Argiris (Escamillo), and conducted by Constantinos Carydis, Zambello’s hugely successful production of Carmen was a hit with London audiences and critics and promises to delight audiences around the world with its timeless music and encompassing 3D visuals. The different types of cameras used during the filming gave the production team unprecedented access and the ability to truly capture the emotional aspects of the performance.
